What is possible? Human potential and genetic limits
The discussion of genetic potential SUCKS.
The reality is that, unless you’ve been training – perfectly – since you were 6, you’ll never know. The point is to work from where you are to the best you can be.
The only way to know your real potential is to focus on doing the best you can whenever you can. We can all lament times when we weren’t training or dieting properly – perhaps you wish you’d started sooner.
There’s a Chinese proverb that says the best time to plant a lemon tree was a decade ago, but the second-best time is today. This is very philosophical, but the point is obvious: you can only change what you can do now.
Human potential isn’t really understood, and there’s always something to improve upon so its hard to tell. But what I can guarantee is that your goals and improving your quality of life are all 100% possible.
Your focus doesn’t always need to be on your 100% potential. It needs to be on squeezing the most from your processes: doing the best you can to improve the best you can!
Your long-term goals should get you out of bed in the morning, but when you’re keeping your technique tight on every rep of every workout, THAT is the kind of potential I care about.
